I Actually Feel For Tomi Lahren

In case you haven’t heard, Tomi Lahren, the outspoken voice of conservative millenials and host of “Tomi” on The Blaze network, has been suspended by The Blaze for her comments on The View about her being pro-choice. 
Lahren is wildly popular on the internet and her increasing popularity is largely attributed to her angry viral rants about subjects like the Black Lives Matter movement and former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick refusing to stand for the national anthem.

It is no secret that I am quite liberal, and it is no secret that I despise Tomi Lahren and literally every single syllable that comes out of her mouth, so you would think that I would be overjoyed when I heard she was taken off the air for the next week. 

But you would be wrong. 

I literally cannot believe I am saying this but I actually kinda feel for Tomi Lahren. And just in case you were wondering what exactly she said that got her suspended, here it is:

“I’m pro-choice, and here’s why. I am a constitutional. You know, someone that loves the constitution. I’m someone that’s for limited government. So I can’t stand here and be a hypocrite and say I’m for limited government but think the government should decide what women do with their bodies…so stay out of my guns and you can stay out of my body as well.”

Okay, let’s break that down. Aside from the fact I have no clue what the hell a “constitutional” is, Tomi actually makes a decent point here. One of the many flaws of pure conservatives is that they are for small government but when it comes to an unborn child, they feel the government should outlaw abortions and force women to have the child. So I actually give credit to Lahren for at least being consistent in her belief in small government.

One person who doesn’t agree with myself or Lahren is Glenn Beck. That’s important because he runs The Blaze and therefore is Lahren’s employer. He suspended Lahren after these comments and the reasoning for that also seems pretty hypocritical on Beck’s end. The Daily Caller first reported on this and said the following:

“Lahren’s inflammatory, oftentimes angry style has placed her increasingly at odds with coworkers at The Blaze, The Daily Caller has learned, a situation that has worsened after she called pro-life conservatives hypocrites.”

So Lahren got kicked off because she was allegedly inflammatory. Now in all fairness, Tomi Lahren does talk so fast and so angrily you would think she is the Busta Rhymes of political commentary but it is really odd to hear that coming from Glenn Beck, who keep in mind, got fired from Fox News for being probably the most inflammatory person of TV. Essentially he was Tomi Lahren before Tomi Lahren existed so for him to suspend her for being inflammatory is remarkably hypocritical.

Beck went on his radio show later the next day and basically threw a ton of shade at Lahren for failing to be “intellectually honest” and suggesting that she gets her news and political views from Twitter and Facebook. 

Clearly, there’s some serious beef here. Lahren’s contract runs through September and whether Beck decides to renew her deal is another story for another day but what I find so amazing about this is how public they have made this. Sure, if I am Lahren’s employer I would be interested to know where she gets her news but publicizing your criticism on your radio show probably isn’t the best PR move. 

But on the actual issue of pro-life conservatives being hypocrites, I agree with Tomi Lahren. You can’t say “I WANT SMALL GOVERNMENT!” and then turn around and say “Well I want the government be able to tell women what to do with their bodies.” You can’t have it both ways. You can make an argument for being pro-life, there’s nothing wrong with that, but you cannot then claim that it’s for small government. I give this point to Lahren because all she really did was point out the hypocrisy that pro-life conservatives like Beck have but won’t be “intellectually honest” about. Will Lahren be fired? Time will tell and it’s ultimately up to Glenn Beck but at least for the next week, he doesn’t want her on the air.
